Buffalo River Sheds

While driving near Boxley, Arkansas, my uncle and I came
across this view of an open pasture with a couple of old sheds.
I'm always inclined to paint something like this - I have a
good collections of barns, sheds, etc,- but the day was such
good weather and the view so inviting.
It beckoned to be painted.

with a few small touches added later.
Hope it dries before the auction..

Blacksmith Shop

This is an old blacksmith shop sitting alongside the road
on the west bank of the Arkansas River from Ft. Smith.
It's been unoccupied for quite a while but made for an
interesting subject for a quick plein aire painting.
I submitted it along with the church painting for the
Art in the Park exhibition.

Ft. Smith Downtown Church

This was painted this past weekend as part of
my participation in the Ft. Smith, Arkansas Art in
the Park festivities. There were many good painters
out on the streets painting in plein aire fashion
and around 50 paintings were completed
in a two-day session of outdoor painting. Great
time was had by all.

White Rose and Blue Jar

This is a 16" x 20" still life on stretched
canvas. It's a bit too"smooth" and needs
some  loosening up a bit. It's already
framed and hanging in the dining room.
It's painted in oils.

Wedington Road Sunset

This little stretch of road east of
Siloam Springs, Arkansas has always been
a pleasant drive and I'll wager I've driven
it at least a hundred times. I've seen some
of the greatest sunsets while heading
back to Tulsa.

Hint of Fall

Here's a small study of two trees
alongside a small pond just a block
or two away from busy streets in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. Yes, we do have busy
streets in Tulsa. And quite a few places
like this in the middle of it all to help
retain sanity and provide us with some
really nice places to paint.

Buttons & Tulips

This is a pencil drawing on a water color
under painting and then touched up with small
tints of pastel and water color in some of the
items in the still life. It's on water color
paper and it's about 8" x 10".

Rose Garden Magnolia & Roses

This is yet another rose garden painting, probably
the last for a while until the Garden Center paint-out
on the 13th of September. This is 8" x 10" oil on
gessoed mdf board.

Sharon's Pond II

This was painted this morning alongside a small pond
in a neighborhood filled with large trees and wildlife.
Beautiful spot in the middle of the city of Tulsa.
Painted on gessoed masonite, 9" x 12".

Rose Garden, Woodward Park, Tulsa

This is an oil 8" x 10" on gessoed mdf board with an orange
underpainting. I really have to pay attention to keeping
things "loose" but accurate and I'm afraid it got away
from me in a couple of areas. But when I left the garden,
it was 99.9% done. I did add a few of the roses and highlights
on the water after arriving home.
Nice day today. Wish I could do this every day.

Suzy

My grand daughter. Her brother Will is next. As soon
as I finish his portrait, their cousin Claire will
follow. I don't do many portraits and they aren't easy
for me but these three grandchildren make it absolutely
necessary to at least try. They are the age that makes
it a challenge but fun.

Small Still Life

This is an oil on gessoed masonite. Small, 5" x 7".
A very quick half-hour painting as a demo in class
to encourage working small as a way of developing
technique and keeping things simple.

unique texture and value.

Tulsa From Turkey Mountain

On scene at 8:00 a.m. and painted this one today.
It's an 8 x 10 oil on MDF board. I also managed
to squeak in another small 5 x 7 painting looking
the other way. It's a distant view of Jones Airport but
it didn't turn out very well, so I won't be posting
that one. I'm not that brave. We all have those
"clunkers" now and then.

Orchid Still LIfe

This was painted in a class. A very fragile looking orchid.
It's 9"x12" in size, oil on gessoed masonite covered in linen.

Mel's Garage

This used to be a place called Mel's Garage in
Tulsa, Oklahoma but Mel is no longer around and
it's been turned into an artist's studio with three
old VW's parked out front. It's directly across
the street from an art supply store, so there's no
chance of running out of paint on this one. This
was painted on site with gouache. Early in the day
before the heat took over.

Gouache Study

This study was painted as preparation for a class
that I'm going to try to teach in Sapulpa, Oklahoma
at the Water Street Gallery, provided we have enough
people sign up for it. It'll be a drawing class
with some gouache thrown in for good measure.
This is a combination of both and it's painted on
a cardboard backing of an old pad of drawing paper.
The opaque water colors have a nice effect on this
kraft brown color but you have to work fast because
the surface absorbs a lot of water and it leaves little
room for blending.

Sharon's Flowers

This grouping of hydrangea blossoms was painted
from life. That pitcher the flowers are in is over
a hundred years old. A challenge to paint because
of the unusual shape.

From the collection of Capt. & Mrs. Alex Adams

Pryor Farm

This landscape can be found just northeast
of Pryor, Oklahoma. While driving, I always
carry my camera to take reference shots and
this one caught my eye mid-morning while
driving back to Tulsa.

Still Life in Red and Silver

This is a 9" x 12" oil on panel painting
that was the result of an art lesson.
Very simple objects with a wide range
of textures and surfaces.

Resonance Painting

This painting was completed this week for the
upcoming auction for Resonance, an organization
in Tulsa, Oklahoma which is involved with women's
issues such as breast cancer. Many non-profit
organizations in Tulsa rely on these auctions to fund
their worthwhile efforts. Hope someone likes it
enough to take it home!

San Angelo Afternoon

This painting is currently exhibited at the
Tulsa International Mayfest in Tulsa. This is
a landscape of the open fields south of
San Angelo, Texas looking north. A lot of cotton
grown in these fields.

Water Street Gallery 6 x 6

This is my painting, a 6" x 6" on stretched canvas
to enter in the Water Street Gallery's 6 x 6 exhibition.
It's a new gallery in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
Nice space and good people.

Oklahoma Spring

This is a new painting completed yesterday and framed for
the Tulsa International Mayfest Invitational Gallery.
I have another one and will post it as soon as I get
a good shot of it. These are hard to shoot with without
the varnish reflecting!

Woodward Park Morning

Went to Woodward Park in Tulsa this morning
and painted this quick 8" x 10" oil on board. It's
nice and warm today and the light was really good.
Everything is so green all of a sudden.

Art Class Demo

This is a quick demo produced for an art class
to show the different stages of painting that I
use. It's a very quick study from a photo that I
shot last year. It's a 9" x 12" painting on gessoed
masonite with an orange underpainting.

Boulder Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's
a small 6" x 8" oil on canvas mounted
on masonite.

Osage Spring

This is an early spring scene of the Osage county
countryside in Oklahoma. It's only a 5"x 7" oil on
gessoed panel. I have a nice rich yellow orange
underpainting that makes it a little warmer.

Downtown Tulsa Overpass

This is a morning view looking northeast from
the Union Depot train station. There are several
overpasses that cross the tracks and the
historic Brady district is on the other side.
The sky was so hazy, it was almost white.
Not New Mexico, that's for sure. This was painted
quickly on location.

Machelle

This is a painting from life during another
session at the Ft. Smith Art Center's First Saturday group.
It's a great way to interact with other painters..a terrific
idea, in my opinion. I enjoy the drive to Ft. Smith and
I also get to visit my daughter in the process.
This painting has had a couple of revisions and
tweaks but I think it's done. For now.
