Noontime in Del Rio

This scene in the old section of Del Rio, Texas, is
painted from a photo taken last summer while visiting
our son, who is stationed there as an instructor pilot
at Laughlin Air Force Base. Del Rio is quite old and
there are some interesting sights and shopping in the
old original section of town.
This is oil on board. 11" x 14".

Glenview Road

I went with David Halpern, one of the best photographers
in this part of the country, to visit a farm just east of Tulsa
to take photos of the countryside for possible painting ideas.
I took a ton of reference photos and this is the result
of one of them. I plan to add more of the images from
my outings in the near future.

More Ducks

I had some good shots of ducks to work from but this is it
for the ducks. It's good practice for painting water, though.
But time to move on to boats or something else....

Bill's Garden

My father-in-law is an avid gardener and this was painted at
the close of day in a very quick plein air exercise. He lives in
in Fayetteville, Arkansas and I think that wheelbarrow is
getting ready to be dusted off once again very soon with
more activity.

Greer's Pond

This is a quick painting that is an exercise in using very thin oils
and painting over a very warm underpainting. This scene is
in Roland, Oklahoma and depicts a late afternoon in very
early spring.

Class Exercises

When teaching a beginning or intermediate class, I like to do a simple
image demonstration to show how I work and how quickly you can
create an image by using under paintings. A simple pear and apple can
be very basic, or complicated depending on your point of view and also
the amount of detail included in the painting. These two images
took about 20 minutes each to complete and are 8"x 10" oil on panel.
